Next Year’s Pirelli Calendar Looks A Little Different

The times, they are a-changin’. Earlier today, it was revealed that the Pirelli Calendar — the world’s foremost celebration of bare breasts swathed in hot oil — has classed up its act for 2016.

Artfully shot in black-and-white by seminal photographer Annie Leibowitz, the women featured this year were chosen for their achievements rather than their measurements. Leibovitz was given free rein to select any 12 women she wished, and she wisely chose to replace the barely-dressed supermodels of years past with an all-star, mostly-clothed line-up of smart, provocative, powerful ladies ranging from Yoko Ono and Patti Smith to Fran Leibowitz and Rookie founder Tavi Gevinson.

Only two months feature partial nudes: April, which showcases the muscular bare back of Serena Williams, and December, with Amy Schumer sitting pretty with a cup o’ joe. Only Schumer, Leibovitz joked, seemed to miss the memo about keeping her clothes on.

The Pirelli calendar’s dramatic shift comes on the heels of Playboy‘s pledge to stop publishing nudes and the closure of FHM, possibly signaling the end of times for catering to the male gaze. Leibovitz’s portraits showcase an entirely new idea of femininity and beauty that men might not be used to seeing — but one that we’d totally be cool with becoming the new normal.

Founded in 1978 by brothers Mounzer and Suhail Kaidbey, @chateaudivoire began as a Montreal boutique of global treasures and evolved with their clientele’s tastes. The Kaidbeys’ mastery of fine jewellery-making transformed their store into a renowned destination for bespoke craftsmanship. This season, whether you’re giving or simply taking time to appreciate what endures, Montréal’s maison of modern elegance offers a rare constant — beauty shaped by devotion, meant to last a lifetime.
For @mapleleafs Goalie Anthony Stolarz, his mask for the 2025-26 season is a fusion of modern design and personal legacy, conceived through the lens of Apple’s “Made on iPad” campaign. Designed by artist @jboairbrush , we caught up with them both to talk through the design and how the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil Pro made the process easier.
