Put away your motorcycle and lock up your steel cage of death — we’ve found the next great circus act of our time.
Last weekend, dozen of flyers descended on Empuriabrava, Spain for the third annual Wind Games, an absurd showcase of gravity-defying acrobatics set inside a Willy Wonka-esque wind tunnel.
The Wind Games are just one event in a growing circuit of competitive indoor skydiving meets. There are a handful of categories, including two- and four-person team variations, which vaguely resemble an airborne synchronized swimming show. But the only event that really matters — the most impressive and majestic and stupefyingly cyberpunk — is the singles freestyle.
Frankly, it’s kind of impossible to convey just how batshit crazy this stuff is with words. Which is why we’ve compiled the dizzyingly absurd array of GIFs below for your viewing pleasure.
This is Leo Volkov, the singles freestyle champion.
He performed to the title credits from Requiem For A Dream, which was every bit as hauntingly epic as you’d expect.
Canadian Guillaume Boileau participated and somehow got his body to do this.
Our favourite, though, was Maja Kuczyńska, a Polish flyer who completely killed it.
She flew to Sia’s “Chandelier,” which, we have to say, was a pretty apt choice.
