1. Final testimonies
The Crown presented its final evidence in the Jian Ghomeshi trial today, submitting a written statement from actress Sarah Dunsworth, a friend of Lucy Decoutere’s — one of the three complainants in the trial. Closing arguments will begin tomorrow after the defence elected to not present any evidence or call any witnesses, including Ghomeshi, himself.
2. Fall out from New Hampshire
Both party outsiders won big in yesterday’s New Hampshire primaries. Donald Trump, who missed his projections in Iowa two weeks ago, finally delivered, winning New Hampshire with 35 per cent of the vote. And after handily defeating Hilary Clinton, Bernie Sanders has raised $5.2 million since polls closed yesterday.
+1: Ted Cruz, who finished third in yesterday’s voting, say it’s now a two-way race between him and Donald Trump.
+1: Republican long shots Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina have suspended their campaigns.
3. Michigan officials could face manslaughter charges over Flint’s water crisis
“With whom the blame for the poisoned water and subsequent outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in Flint, Michigan lies is still being determined. But the top investigator on the case says that when all is said and done, government officials could face charges as serious as involuntary manslaughter.”
+1: A petition to recall Michigan governor Rick Snyder was approved yesterday by the state’s Board of State Canvassers yesterday, the first steps required to trigger a recall vote.
4. Meet the woman who makes prosthetic pinkies for ex-Yakuza members
I pinky-promise this is a good story.
5. Maybe you weren’t impressed with Cam Newton after the Super Bowl…
…but Peyton Manning is a far bigger asshole.
