Wear This Now: The Off-Duty Staples You Need to Stay Fresh All Weekend Long

With season two of Daredevil dropping on Netflix this weekend (starring our main man Jon Bernthal), the urge to stay inside and watch it all in one sitting will be hard to resist. If you’re going to be a couch potato, though, at least do it while preserving a little self-respect — change out of your PJs and into some updated sportswear classics that are just as comfortable, if not more so. Bonus: when you finally drag your ass out of your house, you’ll still look fresh and not at all like you just binged a whole season in one go.

1. Gucci Viscose Jersey Sweater, $1,070

The humble grey crewneck sweatshirt gets an upgrade thanks to designer Alessandro Michele’s new aesthetic at Gucci. The jersey body is tricked out with the brand’s classic red and blue web, reinterpreted as a thick-rib knit trim on the cuffs and collar.

2. Theory Stretch-Twill Jogger Pants, $317 at Barneys

The days of head-to-toe sweatsuits are long past, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still be inspired by the leisure suits of yore. Joggers with an elasticized waist and ankle cuffs are comfortable, but remain a step up from sweats thanks to their tailored cut.

3. Ebbets Field Flannels Kansas City Katz 1961 Ballcap, $60

A classic cap with a quirky retro logo, which was lifted from a midcentury amateur team sponsored by the Katz drugstore chain. Hard to imagine a current team in the MLB using a crazy looking cat as their mascot, and that’s exactly what makes this hat so delightful.

4. Tag Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 Automatic Chronograph 39 mm, $7,660

Tag Heuer’s Monaco watch is arguably one of the most recognizable timepieces out there thanks to its unique square face and the fact that it was worn by Steve McQueen in Le Mans. Launched in 1969, 2016 is being graced with a reissue that marries the legacy 39mm case and Calibre 11 movement with a modern open case back and a perforated leather strap.

5. Instance Sidestep Tred Men’s Crew Socks, $17 at Sportchek

These socks may look like the common cotton variety dressed up in a fun print, but there’s a lot going on under the hood. Reinforced heels and toes keep holes at bay, the elastic cuff and arch maintain the shape, and mesh vents help your feet stay dry and odourless.

6. New Balance 574 Winter Harbor, $110

Created in 1988, the 574 has become one of NB’s best-selling styles, and for good reason — they’re comfortable, long-lasting, and understated compared to a lot of the current must-have sneakers. Normally made of suede and nylon, this version has a textured upper and bright red accents to add some punch.
