Brittany Martinez Doesn’t Pull Any Punches

Multi-hyphenate careers usually come from years and years of work and countless projects. For Brittany Martinez, her own busy career has transpired in a short amount of time.

“I started taking improv classes when I was 13 and by 16 I was booking modelling jobs and music videos,” says Martinez. “Everything just kind of snowballed.”

Somewhere in that time, the Dallas native found the wherewithal to earn a black belt in tae kwon do and compete in the Junior Olympics where she took home a bronze medal. Since then, she’s used her physical background to continue adding jobs to her resume.

“As a model, physicality is a great tool to have in my arsenal,” says Martinez. “It makes me more agile if I fall. I’ve also worked as a body double for Jessica Alba and would love to do more stunt work. Anything martial arts-related, I’m in.”

What is your worst habit?

I’m really bad at cleaning my car. I bring so many clothes for different shoots or auditions and I leave it all in my car. It looks like a closet. It’s awful.

What is your pet peeve?

Flakes. If you live in Los Angeles, you’ll know what I mean. People flake so regularly that sometimes if I have a meeting at 8am, I’ll just sleep in because I know something will magically come up and I’d be the only person there.

What is your dream job?

To shoot for Guess and have a makeup campaign. Acting-wise, to do a sitcom like The Office.

What is your favourite way to work out?

Martial arts and pilates. I grew up doing taekwondo, but now I do a lot more slow and controlled movements. So kind of tai chi-ish, but also taekwondo. And boxing of course. It’s a fun way to get in shape.

Is there any specific celebrity you’d like to party with?

Taylor Swift, duh! She’d be so fun! I actually played her friend in her music video ‘Trouble’. I got to hang out with her for a couple of days. She was so chill and so fun. I feel like we would have a lot of girly movies-and-ice-cream parties. Maybe we won’t go to a club, but she’d be fun.

What is your favourite holiday to celebrate?

Christmas. I’m so excited! I want to shop for friends and family on Black Friday, but I feel like I’m going to shop more for myself.

What TV shows are you watching right now?

I just finished Stranger Things, which I loved! House of Cards is great. There is just so much great TV right now. I’m a binge-watcher when those come out, but it’s hard when I’m working all the time.
