Moncler Unveils Genius

Last night in Milan, the Italian outerwear powerhouse Moncler kicked off Fashion Week in dramatic style by unveiling its much-anticipated Genius project. Sharp was in attendance at the teeming Palazzo delle Scintille, where CEO Remo Ruffini showed off his ambitious brainchild: a single FW 2018 collection of eight high-profile collaborations, released one at a time, month-by-month as they assemble what the brand calls the Genius Building. The eight collaborations included Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli, Moncler 1952, Sandro Mandrino (the man behind the Moncler Grenoble line), Simone Rocha, Craig Green, Kei Ninomiya, Hiroshi Fujiwara and Francesco Ragazzi of Palm Angels. The idea, said Ruffini, is to have eight different voices working to shape the voice of a single, unique brand. It’s an unusual strategy, but the designs presented last night prove that, as the saying goes, eight heads are better than one.
