The Mercedes-AMG Project One Is the World’s Most Terrifying Production Car

Talk to anyone from Mercedes-AMG about the Project One hypercar and it becomes obvious that this isn’t business as usual. They become animated, visibly giddy. Mercedes is coming off four straight Formula One championships, the pinnacle of motorsport achievement. AMG is at the height of its powers, and celebrating its 50th anniversary. It was time for a grand gesture — to lay down a marker and create something so far beyond what was thought possible that it will not be eclipsed for a long, long time.

Project One is built around the F1 racer’s 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid engine. Nobody has dared to put an F1 engine on the street before. It’s reputed to boast over 1,000 horsepower and rev to a stratospheric 11,000 rpm. In less than six seconds, it’ll go from 0–200 km/h. The Canadian price is roughly $3.5 million. If you want one, though, you might be too late; all 275 editions are reportedly sold.
