Sharp: The Book For Men Fall/Winter 2018 Launch Event

It was the ideal location: the site of an out-of-this-world, avant-garde architectural masterpiece. Where better to toast a new edition of Canada’s most forward-thinking reference for the modern man? Over 600 esteemed guests gathered Thursday at Unzipped, a new installation in Toronto by superstar architect Bjarke Ingels, for our Sharp: The Book For Men Fall/Winter 2018 launch event. The winding, zipper-like structure was one hell of a backdrop for an evening full of futuristic machines, artisanal drinks, and exceptionally good company.

Upon entry, VIPs were given a chance to get a good gawk at BMW’s new i8 Roadster, the automaker’s benchmark-setting, plug-in hybrid, top-down triumph. Elsewhere, they were given the first-ever Canadian look at the BMW 8 Series and a selection of BMW M cars. Sticklers for good thematic continuity, Paco Rabanne were nearby offering top-ups at their gas perfume station, with actual pumps that sprayed fragrances. Nifty! Crows Nest barbershop was also on hand to fix up them fades.

Helping us keep warm this crisp fall evening was an arsenal of craft cocktails by Belvedere, Hennessy, and Glenmorangie. Heineken also offered assistance via their classic lager and, for those looking to get a head start on Sober October, their non-alcoholic ‘0.0’ option. Inside the Unzipped installation, some ace DJ performances kept the party bumpin’.

Good thing Fiji Water was there to keep us hydrated the whole time. It was a night for the books — and a loud one at that, full of big ideas and big laughs. And why not? There’s a new Book For Men out, featuring a very outspoken Michael Shannon as its cover star. Clearly, there’s lots to talk about. No need to keep it zipped.
