5 Squiggly Designs to Add Personality to Your Space

While the rest of the world endeavours to get back on track, the design industry is embracing the art of the abrupt U-turn. Navigating away from rigid geometry and toward all things arched and sinuous, furniture-makers have landed on a new obsession: the squiggle. Fans of the (original) Saved by the Bell credits or the postmodern Memphis design movement that inspired them will no doubt celebrate the cheerful shape’s big return to the spotlight. And any opportunity to introduce more playful personality into our domestic space feels especially welcome at a moment when home design serves as our primary outlet for self-expression. But in considering the highs and lows of this latest decor trend, we’re particularly drawn to understated furniture and accessories that temper their loopy silhouettes with a more muted palette. The curvy concrete counter that Batay-Csorba Architects recently designed for Vancouver oyster bar ShuckShuck (pictured) offers a great reference point. Here are five other sculptural designs that promise to turn any lingering frowns upside down — even in moody shades of grey.
