SHARP Drives: A History of the Nissan Z Video

The Nissan Z has a lengthy and rather interesting history — one steeped in motorsport heritage, and born out of a desire for the brand to compete with the American Muscle scene. Entering production in 1969, there were questions as to how the Japanese marque would fare against its rivals at Ford and Chevrolet. That said, early successes in motorsport rapidly cemented its position in automotive lore, and through to present day the Z maintains an exceptionally strong following. To celebrate the launch of the 2023 Nissan Z, we’re taking a look back through the model’s history, and how the various models impacted the design of this latest iteration.
