Prada Double Match Shirt Rejuvenates the Brand’s Trademark Prints

To distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack, luxury fashion houses must develop high-quality designs and easily-identifiable emblems. Since the ’90s, Prada has made this clear — timeless prints are a dominant gene, passed down from one collection to the next. The Prada Double Match Shirt is the latest incarnation of the house’s eye-catching patterns, available in eleven editions. The collection boasts a broad range, from flashy, mixed-media pops of colour to toned-down prints inspired by embroidery and decor.

Prada’s DNA & CRISPR themed look, pictured below on the left, sports a Prada comic devised in collaboration with artist James Jean. CRISPR, the process of DNA modification, allows scientists to edit and redesign human features. Prada and Jean redesign the brand’s classic traits, playing with Prada’s penchant for patterns to create a refreshed take on themes we love.

Other prints offer minimalist interpretations of looks from the brand’s past. Above on the right, the Prada Double Match Shirt incorporates a carnation motif from SS2001 using a photographic process. A bright and tropical coral-orange saturates the flowers’ silhouette, giving a fresh perspective on staple floral shirts.

Other styles include a cheery Vichy theme in robin-egg-blue. The pattern recalls a 2013 runway print, making the shirt a cool-toned, short-sleeved friend of the Gingham-style Prada jacket. Another edition bears a curling floral design, bringing cotton embroidery to mind. Set against a navy background, the white and blue pattern is well-suited to nautical outings and sandy beach walks.
