A Letter From Our Editorial and Creative Director: The Cool Down

There’s something innately substantial about a fall/winter wardrobe that has always resonated with me. In coordinating the layers required to meet the conditions of fast-cooling days, there’s a level of grace and elegance I’ve come to associate with the season, partly due to my obsession with coats and quality knits.

Devising an effective fall lineup is equal parts daunting and fun. But, as Canadians, we are masters at adapting our wardrobes for the ever-shifting climate, and our latest style manual is a curated deep dive into the FW23 collections. From summit-inspired outwear evoking the grandeur of mountain vistas to tailoring executed with masterful precision, the coming months invite us to indulge in luxurious textures to elevate our daily styles.

One of the looks I consider the most compelling in this book’s style manual is a Prada ensemble. Modelled with conviction by director Irakli Rodonaia, it centres on an undeniably timeless brown suede jacket, effortlessly transformed into a modern statement when paired with coordinating khaki shirt and tie. While shooting the look, I had a suspicion that it was loosely inspired by something I had previously seen — possibly something already in my folder of references. After the shoot, I realized it was similar to a style worn by SHARP cover alumni Willem Dafoe for a Prada campaign from Fall/Winter 1996 — a testament to Prada’s enduring success in designing contemporary fashion that remains eternally fresh.

So, as you embark on your own sartorial journey this season, I hope our style manual remains your ultimate point of reference, and that you succeed in embracing the beauty of self-expression through fashion while curating a wardrobe that’s both inspired and satisfying.
