8 Men’s Met Gala Looks From “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”

Titled “Tailored For You,” the 2025 Met Gala encouraged attendees to play with personal style — and, as guests marched up the museum steps, hundreds of inspired ensembles proved the theme successful. Legendary composer Stevie Wonder sported a sparkling, sequin-covered cape while country star Shaboozey subverted expectations, turning up in a cropped black jacket with a chic hardwood print. Yet the celebration goes beyond clothing. Co-chaired by Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, and (of course) Vogue editor Anna Wintour, this year’s Met Gala supports the upcoming exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which will be on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art starting May 10th. And, with a whopping $31 million in donations, the 2025 Met Gala fundraiser posts its highest total yet.

Inside, the exhibit centres the 12 characteristics of Black dandyism, including attributes like ownership, presence, distinction, disguise, cool, and cosmopolitanism. Rooted in the Harlem Renaissance, Black dandyism is distinguished by its unique take on classic formalwear: think of a sharply-tailored three-piece suit, paired with a cheeky fedora or top hat. Today, silhouettes are often oversized, with billowing and bold forms that blur the lines between feminine and masculine. Myriad designers have offered their own takes; look to Pharrell’s SS24 for a recent example. Aesthetically, Black dandyism is about asserting one’s autonomy — a theme that’s at once topical and timeless. Scroll on to see our favourite looks from the 2025 Met Gala.

Decked out in stunning all-black looks by Sergio Hudson, we could give this trio an article of their own. From Bracy’s elegant neckpiece to Morris’ mesmerizing corset and Wonder’s iconic beret — not to mention his trailing, sequin-studded black cape — each star offered a truly personal take on the night’s theme.

Black Bag star Regé-Jean Page donned an electric red ensemble on the steps of the Met. “I think there is a demand for boldness when we talk about dandyism. I think there is a demand for narrative,” Page told British GQ ahead of the event. “You have to take up a bit of space.” The SHARP cover alum balanced his fiery look with metallic gold bands, a gemstone pin, and a vintage TAG Heuer Carrera on his wrist.

Arriving with an audacious sewing machine bag in hand, Olivier Rousteing winked at his historic tenure as Balmain’s creative director. On the flower-covered carpet, the French fashion designer showed off his styling prowess in a daring jacket, complete with wide lapels, augmented shoulders, and a glimmering gold shirt. To top it off, Rousteing wore subtly-flared trousers and an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin timepiece in yellow gold.

Draped in dazzling turquoise beads, Shaboozey wins a prize for originality. The musician inverted familiar masculine dress codes, opting for a cropped jacket as opposed to an oversized one. And, rather than a tie, Shaboozey paired his gemstones with a sleek black bow. Alongside two square-shaped rings, the singer wore a self-winding Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, complete with a turquoise dial.

The picture says it all: Law Roach is back — and this time, he’s blonde! Teaming up with Burberry, the celebrity stylist donned a custom velvet suit, with complementary ruffled white shirt sleeves and pair of silvery brooches pinned to the lapels. “This Met Gala is personal,” Roach said to Vogue. “Not only for myself, but also for all the people like me.”

With Law Roach back in the ring, we had to highlight one of his clients — after all, it’s not every day that André 3000 straps a piano to his back. Sporting a combination of custom Burberry and his own menswear line, Benji Bixby, the musician’s outlandish accessory promotes his just-released album, 7 piano sketches. Covered in umbrella motifs and graphite zippers, André 3000 contrasted his navy look with a vibrant red cap.

As a co-chair, we had high standards for A$AP Rocky — and we’re happy to report that he exceeded expectations. Putting a contemporary twist on traditional tailoring, the rapper embodied Black dandyism to a tea. He sported multiple high jewellery pieces by BVLGARI, including a platinum Polychroma necklace layered atop a classic black necktie. Signature black shades conveyed an air of mystique, accentuated with an umbrella and snap-closure trench coat.

Omar Apollo turned heads on the Met Gala carpet, where he debuted a new hairstyle marked by flashy yellow highlights. Dressed in a sharp high-low jacket and shiny leopard print shirt, the singer doubled down on glamour with a feathered brooch and a high collar. Meanwhile, diamond earrings set in 18k white gold — courtesy of Chopard’s L’Heure du Diamant Collection — polished off the look.
