Orange. Lemon zest. Caramel, coconut, vanilla custard. Upon opening The Glenlivet Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask Selection, these sizzling scents float through the air like an olfactory appetizer. This out-of-the-box beverage comes courtesy of a unique process: barrels previously used to age rum and bourbon are first deconstructed, then reassembled to create an entirely new cask. Inside, the single malt Scotch whisky is finished to perfection. The result is an unrivalled expression.

“This category-first innovation continues our commitment and 200-year legacy of pushing boundaries in whisky,” says Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet cask expert. Refreshing, fruity notes play alongside caramel and toffee, infusing the flavour profile with a symphonic effect. The spirit credits its tantalizing composition to the unconventional method through which it is created. “This intricate dismantling and reassembling process to create new bespoke casks ensures a distinctive and expertly crafted finish,” Balmforth added.

Given the bespoke process, it’s fitting that The Glenlivet celebrates its new expression in an equally singular style. To unveil the Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask Selection, The Glenlivet partnered with Toronto’s Vintage Conservatory for a slew of Scotch-tasting events. The series, dubbed “The Distiller’s Table,” featured intimate whisky pairing dinners with tables will be the country’s most discerning connoisseurs.

“There is a strong population of prestige spirits drinkers in Canada,” explains Nick Cianfaglione, assistant brand manager at Corby Spirit and Wine Ltd. “They continue to look for unique and elevated taste experiences. The Glenlivet Fusion Cask is being released at the perfect time to answer that call.”

Balancing the distillery’s storied heritage with a new, forward-thinking approach, The Glenlivet Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask Selection is innovation in a bottle.
