Sustainability might be fashion’s favourite buzzword — but at Prada, words carry weight.

For the 2026 Prada Re-Nylon Campaign, the Italian label tapped Benedict Cumberbatch and Letitia Wright to star in two documentary films by National Geographic CreativeWorks. Two nautical locales take centre stage: Wright heads to Oahu, Hawaii while Cumberbatch touches down in Kamakura, Japan.

In both documentaries, the ocean gets top billing (and rightfully so). “[The ocean] goes beyond a backdrop, becoming a protagonist in its own right,” Prada said in a statement. This move is deliberate, as both films chronicle the real-life impact of Prada’s SEA BEYOND initiative: a project that aims to educate the public by supporting research, community action, and ocean preservation worldwide. Saltwater, then, is a natural star.

Prada’s penchant for preservation characterizes its new clothing, too — right down to the fibre. Since 2019, Prada has celebrated the high seas with its Re-Nylon collection: an assortment of accessories and ready-to-wear apparel made from regenerated nylon. While recycled ocean fibres aren’t unheard of, Re-Nylon takes things a step further. Pulling plastic from unsavoury sources (textile fibre waste, landfills, ocean debris) and treating it to a process of depolymerization and re-polymerization, Prada produces a new, circular type of textile. Re-Nylon, like its name suggests, is made to be broken down and rebuilt indefinitely.

“The collection fuses innovation with measurable accountability, including a wider and fundamental shift from virgin nylon to regenerated Prada Re-Nylon across all Prada creations,” the label explains in a statement.

That’s a strong sentiment, considering Prada’s storied romance with nylon. After all, we have Prada to thank for nylon’s rule over the runways; in the 1970s, Miuccia herself introduced the fabric to high fashion. It’s special to see that, over fifty years later, the label still invests in innovation.

With Cumberbatch and Wright in tow, Prada sails towards truly sustainable fashion.
