Spend a day on the Muskoka Lakes and you can read a business off the water. You will see Cobalt hulls everywhere, of different vintages and lengths, three decades of model changes idling past one another between the cottages. A remarkable number of them left from the same dock on Lake Muskoka, and a great many passed through the same family’s hands on the way. Cobalt Boats was founded in 1971, and Walkers Point Marina took on the line in 1979. For close to four decades, the Dunn family turned a regional dealership into something considerably larger than the lake it sits on. Maple Leaf Marinas acquired the marina in 2020, with a stated intention of keeping the family-friendly character intact while broadening what the business offers in Muskoka.
Walkers Point is now the largest Cobalt dealer in Canada and the third largest in the world, with a shelf of NMMA, Top Tier, Platinum, CSI and Service awards behind it. Cobalt has always built on quality and finish rather than volume, which is a mantra the marina is happy to share.
But none of this quite explains the appeal of the place. Pull up for gas and a dock hand meets the boat. Come inside, and there is Kawartha Dairy ice cream, Pie Pizza, and upwards of thirty Cobalts in stock at any time, from twenty-two feet to thirty-five, with Lake Muskoka doing what it does behind them.
Muskoka holds its place as one of North America’s premier boating destinations, which is no small part of why Range Rover House has come here this August. Walkers Point is the local end of that equation, the dock these lakes have been running through since 1979.
