The name is the clue, as Meridian takes its title from the Meridian Prime, the reference line against which the world is measured. This is an unusually literal statement of intent from a company founded in 1977 to pursue precision in sound, but nearly fifty years and a long list of digital audio firsts later, the ambition has not moved.

What distinguishes the approach lies in Meridian’s starting point. Not power or volume but human perception, in how we hear and how hearing makes us feel. It is all about preserving the full detail of a recording so that nothing is lost between the studio and the listener, offering clarity across every frequency, and a genuine sense of space.

The company’s proprietary technologies now reach listeners in luxury homes, aircraft cabins, marine vessels and cars, with a client list running from United Airlines and Rivian to MasterCraft and British Airways. In luxury home audio, Meridian’s own loudspeakers and integrated home theatres remain Made in Britain, sold through specialists worldwide. And around fifteen percent of annual company revenues go back into research and development, a figure that says a lot about priorities.

Meridian’s partnership with JLR covers Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar, and it is a partnership rather than a badge. The audio system is designed into the vehicle from the earliest stage, not fitted afterwards, and is tuned specifically to the each cabin so the sound holds up in every seat. The relationship has now been extended to carry Meridian’s software-led technologies onto JLR’s next generation of all-electric architectures.

“It’s a true collaboration that creates one stronger team from the expertise of both participants,” says Meridian Audio CEO John Buchanan, describing engineers from each side working together from the outset. At Range Rover House Muskoka this August, that work will be sitting in the driveway — doing, as ever, its most convincing arguing from inside the car.
