Sharp List: Montblanc M Fountain Pen

In well over a century of crafting desirable writing instruments, Montblanc has never once collaborated with an outside entity. Until now, that is. For their very first cooperative at-bat, the German stalwarts have hit a unabashed grand slam: they’ve tapped design world icon Marc Newson—the mastermind behind the Lockheed Lounge chair, which sold for a record $3.8 million earlier this year—to create a forward-thinking line of pens dubbed “Montblanc M.”

The result is as stylish and space-age sleek as you’d expect: the glossy black resin body tapers off into an ergonomic plateau, with a magnetic mechanism that snaps the cap into proper alignment to keep the pen’s lines clean and fluid. It’ll be available as a rollerball, ballpoint, screenwriter and fineliner as well, but for our money, the gorgeous fountain pen version above—with a two-tone nib engraved with Newson’s initials—is the most drool-worthy. The entire collection launched yesterday at Montblanc.com.
