Hrush Achemyan Is Your Favourite Celebrity’s Secret Weapon

Most women learn to use makeup by experimenting with their mom’s lipstick and blush as a child. But for celebrity makeup artist and beauty influencer Hrush Achemyan, it all began with a paintbrush and canvas.

“Ever since I can remember, I have been involved with art. It is my life passion,” says Achemyan. “I learned how to oil paint at a young age, which slowly became an escape for me from reality. Oil painting transitioned into makeup application when I was 17. I applied cosmetics onto a face the way I would blend and apply my paints onto a canvas.”

Over the last decade, Achemyan has established herself as one of the most sought-after beauty experts in the game, with a client list most makeup artists can only dream of: Kim Kardashian West, Giuliana Rancic, Leona Lewis, and Karrueche Tran, just to name a few.

Now, Achemyan sits atop a beauty empire that includes traveling the world to educate makeup enthusiasts everywhere, launching a limited edition STYLED BY HRUSH eye and cheek palette, and continuing to reign supreme as the go-to makeup artist for red carpets and editorial work.

“I feel like I can be authentically myself through my image and work,” says Achemyan. “I am literally living my dream.”

What is your favourite place that your job has taken you?

The Middle East and Cuba. I can’t pick between the two. I gravitated towards the culture in the Middle East because it’s so hospitable and I’ve visited so many times. I love their appreciation for art and beauty.  It inspires me every time I visit. On the other hand, Cuba was one of the most liberating trips I’ve ever had. You couldn’t be on your phone because there was no connection to the outside world. I felt like I traveled back in time and got to be disconnected.

What is your worst habit?

I have short-term memory loss on the highest level and it drives everyone, including myself, crazy!

Who would be your dream client?

Princess Diana! She’s my idol.

What is your most treasured possession?

My grandmother’s hairbrush.

What was the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Concentrate on yourself and not others. Look forward in your own lane and stay in your own track. Don’t look side to side.

What is your secret talent?

I can play the flute! The Mission Impossible theme song, actually.

What would be your death row meal?

Ah! There is this shack around where my parents live and they have the most mouthwatering tortas and tacos! They are super spicy! Yup…that would be it: El Sauz tortas, tacos and horchata (extra spicy, please).

Which movie or TV show is your guilty pleasure?

Games of Thrones and Narcos.
