Here’s Your First Look at Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider’

We know, we know: Angelina Jolie will be the one true Lara Croft until your last dying, nerdy breath. Despite the dirty looks you’re undoubtedly tossing our way, we can’t help but be a little excited for the upcoming Tomb Raider remake with Alicia Vikander in the starring role. Sue us.

While filming in South Africa, Vikander was snapped on the set of director Roar Uthaug’s film, and already looks comfortable with the many physical obligations that come part and parcel with your business cards reading “ARCHEOLOGIST/TOTAL BADASS.” She’ll be joined by a cast that includes Walton Goggins as Father Mathias Vogel, Dominic West as Lord Richard Croft and Daniel Wuas Lu Ren.

We can agree that Jolie was a force of freakin’ nature in the original movies, but thanks to a 2013 reboot to the video game that serves as the film’s source material, the franchise was in need of an update. Uthaug has promised that fans of the game will be happy with the outcome. So hush. Vikander’s Croft might seem similar to her predecessor (note the iconic hairstyle, albeit a little mussed up), but it’s almost a guarantee that the two Oscar-winning actresses’ interpretations of the character will wind up wildly different.
