Mercedes-Benz x SHARP
A Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC+ Roadster sits on the floor of Holt Renfrew’s Bloor Street flagship, low and deliberate, easily drawing the eye of knowledgeable customers and SHARP readers the moment they enter. This is the Mercedes-Benz Studio Toronto, recently unveiled as the brand’s Canadian outpost in its global Mercedes-Benz Studios initiative. The Yorkville address is no accident, as this is where Toronto goes to be seen, and where Mercedes-Benz now invites the city to experience the brand beyond the star logo. “We are very proud to be Canada’s leading fashion and lifestyle retailer,” Holt Renfrew’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Jerry Wu, says. “By partnering with Mercedes-Benz, we are excited to welcome a unique, global experience to our Bloor Street flagship.”

In Toronto, this debut chapter is built around sport and performance, with the AMG roadster setting the tone at the entrance. Beyond it, the space opens into a fashion residency with Reigning Champ, the Vancouver-born premium menswear brand whose obsession with materials and construction has earned it a globally recognized following. The pairing is a natural one. “Reigning Champ and Mercedes-Benz share a history as [makers] first,” says Mike Belgue, VP Brand at Reigning Champ, “obsessed with best-in-class materials and craftsmanship being the catalyst for form, all in the pursuit of excellence and performance.” It is a philosophy either brand could claim as its own.
There is a tennis thread that runs through the studio, inspired by the National Bank Open arriving in Toronto and Montreal this summer, and Mercedes-Benz’s standing partnerships with the WTA globally and Tennis Canada locally. It is a sport that offers a fitting theme for this first iteration of the Mercedes-Benz Studio Toronto. As Alex Matthews, VP, Digital, PR and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Canada describes it, tennis at the highest level “is about focus, control, agility and the constant pursuit of improvement, with every point requiring a balance of power, precision and composure. And the same could be said of a well-driven Mercedes-AMG on an open road.”

“The Mercedes-Benz Studio Toronto will transform throughout it’s time at Bloor Street, “featuring innovation and partnerships along the way,“ says Jerry Wu. He’s proud of what customers will experience as a natural brand symbiosis. “We look forward to welcoming customers visiting throughout the journey.”
Toward the back of the studio, the MANUFAKTUR Atelier featuring the all-electric G-Class with MANUFAKTUR Schöckl Design Package shifts the register from performance to craft, with an interactive, workshop-inspired space dedicated to Mercedes-Benz’s bespoke personalization programme. Here, with a bespoke, sartorial focus suited to its Holt Renfrew location, visitors are invited to explore materials, finishes, and customization options in a setting that owes more to an atelier than to a dealership.

An onsite embroidery station further brings the spirit of personalization to life, while drawing a tangible connection between automotive craftsmanship and the traditions of luxury tailoring. For visitors unfamiliar with the brand, this is where the studio makes its clearest case, as Mercedes-Benz frames performance as something never pursued in isolation. It is performance in service of “an immersive driving experience that feels refined, luxurious and unmistakably Mercedes-Benz.”
As the brand marks 140 years of innovation, the Mercedes-Benz Studio Toronto underscores, through an immersive experience, how that pursuit of progress continues to define performance.
It’s a performance expressed not only in engineering, but also in design, materials, and culture, giving Holt Renfrew customers and our readers a new destination to get up close and personal with the German premium brand. The studio will evolve through two further seasonal refreshes before the year is out, so this opening chapter is the one to catch first.
Mercedes-Benz Studio Toronto is open now at Holt Renfrew, 50 Bloor Street West.
