Beau Lake has spent years perfecting the things that sit beside the water, including paddleboards finished to a top-tier standard, chairs, small objects of a well-appointed dock. Its latest project is considerably larger and is being developed in collaboration with Blackbird Boats. Together, the two Canadian brands have created the Beau Lake Cruiser Edition, a limited-edition 38-foot vessel of which exactly ten will be built.

Blackbird approaches boatbuilding as a form of fine art, bringing thousands of hours of skilled handcraft to its modern interpretation of the classic wooden boat. Blackbird leads the vessel’s design, engineering and construction, while Beau Lake brings the mid-century design vocabulary it has applied across its collection. The result is a vessel built on tradition without feeling nostalgic

Two innovations carry the design. The SOLUNA retractable sunshade is a fully customizable canopy that transforms the boat from open air to shelter. Available as an optional feature, the MANTIS stern platform unfolds when needed and disappears cleanly when not in use, preserving the vessel’s sculptural lines while providing generous access to the water.

Owners may choose between twin Yanmar diesel engines for range and reliability or an all-electric configuration using twin EVOY motors powered by DNV-certified battery systems. Both vessel configurations will be engineered and built in Canada. This kind of restraint is a pattern at Beau Lake, a brand that has worked with Saint Laurent, Vilebrequin, Ulysse Nardin and Hinckley Yachts. Each collaboration is a way of building a position in waterside luxury, one partner at a time.

The Beau Lake Cruiser Edition is the most ambitious of these collaborations and the clearest expression yet of where the brand has been heading. Next comes hospitality, and Beau Lake’s stated priority for the coming two years is to deepen its work with luxury hotel groups and boutique waterside retreats. It comes across as a logical extension of a brand that has always sold the experience of the shoreline as much as the objects placed beside it.

Range Rover House Muskoka, on a granite point above Lake Joseph this August, is exactly that sort of place.
