The Jaguar I-PACE Is the World Car of the Year

Tuesday was a big night for dominating performances. The Raptors recorded their largest playoff win in franchise history, the Columbus Blue Jackets swept the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Jaguar I-PACE got a hat-trick at the 2019 World Car Awards.

The all-electric performance SUV was named the overall World Car of the Year, voted by a panel of 86 journalists from around the globe. It also snagged the World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car trophies, making it the first vehicle to ever win three categories in the same year.

“For I-PACE to be awarded 2019 World Car of the Year gives our first all-electric vehicle the ultimate recognition it deserves,” Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr. Ralf Speth said in a statement. “I would like to thank the team who have created I-PACE for their passion in making it so outstanding.”

The two runners up for the World Car of the Year award were the Audi E-Tron and the Volvo S60/V60.

Other World Car Awards winners included the 2019 Audi A7 for World Luxury Car of the Year, taking top honours over the Q8 SUV and BMW 8 Series. The McLaren 720S, meanwhile, won Performance Car of the Year, with the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe as its runners up. And driving off with the World Urban Car honour was the Suzuki Jimny, beating out the Kia Soil and Hyundai AH2/Santro.
