Mido’s Latest Special Edition Is Inspired by a Roman Era Icon

Watchmakers draw inspiration from all kinds of unexpected places, from nature to music to fashion, but for the last 20 years, Mido has devoted part of its collection to an especially unique — and fertile — area of culture: the world of architecture. This year, to mark the 20th anniversary of its first architecture-inspired watch, Mido is releasing a series of limited editions, each dedicated to a different architectural landmark. The first of these is the Mido All Dial Inspired by Architecture 20th Anniversary Limited Edition.

Back in 2002, when Mido introduced the All Dial, it was the first collection from the brand to be explicitly inspired by architecture. With a structured multi-level dial, a round case, and an integrated strap, the All Dial’s design pays homage to one of the greatest buildings ever constructed, the Colosseum in Rome. For 2022, the All Dial Inspired by Architecture 20th Anniversary Limited Edition builds on the unique aesthetics of the original with a grained anthracite dial, and hour markers styled after the Colosseum’s famed arches. Not only does its multi-level circular dial evoke the stands of the amphitheatre as seen from above, but the sandblasted centre also calls to mind the gritty texture of the building’s thousand-year-old stones. In addition to these evocative aesthetics, the All Dial also takes inspiration from Roman architecture in its reliability and strength, thanks to a COSC-certified automatic chronometer movement and screw-down crown and case back.

Much like the Colosseum, considered by many to be the greatest wonder of the Roman Empire, the anniversary edition of All Dial is designed to command respect and admiration. To further this effect, each of the 2,022 pieces is presented in a special decorative case featuring a collectable commemorative medallion. The All Dial is available now, but Mido has a lot more in store for 2022, with architectural additions of their Baroncelli, Ocean Star, Multifort, and Commander lines coming soon.
