Walker McKinley is Principal Architect and Founder of Vancouver-based McKinley Studios. The studio’s ethos – Design Through Disruption – reflects a commitment to radical thinking and innovative design. That they view design as a cultural and artistic act is evident in McKinley’s six-studio approach, a model that leverages a diverse team to realize every project’s full potential. Each studio – themed around Architecture, Interior Design, Procurement, Branding, Art, and Strategy – contributes to a contextual, research-driven and experiential focus that goes beyond the boundaries of conventional design. The Studio’s pursuit of knowledge culminates in its specialized thought-leadership and research division, Black Chamber.

Frank Gehry, Toronto-born architect and designer, has passed away at age 96. Gehry’s designs, notoriously difficult to define, offer a glimpse into his unique worldview.
The Gehry Residence in Santa Monica, built around an existing Dutch colonial home, was perhaps the first of Gehry’s visions to draw global attention. With chain-link fencing and corrugated steel, the architect’s residence solidified his status as a visionary.
As Gehry once described it, his approach to architecture mimics the human experience: “Life is chaotic, dangerous, and surprising. Buildings should reflect that.”
