Louis Vuitton SS25 Pre-Collection, Made For Man’s Best Friend
Dogs express joy in the most earnest, uninhibited form: the cheerful bark of a corgi, the excited sprint of a greyhound, the passionate thumps of a Labrador’s wagging tail. Dog shows, however, are a near-total contrast. Known for their stiff upper lip, these competitions prioritize pedigree and in-bound behaviour — qualities that merit awards. Canine companions sit through hours of grooming and training, repeating routines until they’re second nature. Yet, despite the dogs’ poise, these events are playful, too; there’s a certain comedy to the dogs and trainers, with their all-business attitudes wrapped in a fluffy coat. Finding amusement in the absurd, Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2025 Pre-Collection infuses fine tailoring with the fun-loving canine spirit. A collection of preppy styles and animal-inspired prints lightens the mood of la mode.
While the looks create a casual wardrobe, there’s a level of sophistication to each garment. Street-ready cropped jackets borrow from evening-wear, sporting elegant shawl collars. Shorts pair with tailored suit jackets for an unconventional silhouette, while mother-of-pearl buttons glaze cotton khaki workwear.
Of course, the Maison’s signature patterns are present here, too. The staple Damier motif rises to the surface as ‘Damier Argyle,’ which bends the classic chequered look into new diamond shapes. Preppy and polished, the pattern colours the entire collection: coat lining in magnified chevron, jacquard trench coats, faille v-necks, twill silk suits.
Turning towards accessories, Louis Vuitton’s experimentation reaches its peak. Black velvet berets, Damier Argyle beanies; there’s even a portrait of an Italian greyhound on the back of a silk jacket. Elsewhere, aged gold necklaces and bone bracelets nod towards heritage. Rosettes and crests, meanwhile, embellish a group of neckties and socks.
Canines can partake in the clothing, too. There’s an entire line of pet-friendly accessories, made “for the discerning dog,” as Louis Vuitton puts it. Collars, harnesses, and a plastic bag holder come in the revered Monogram Canvas print. Paws are imprinted on the modern LVERS logo, while other accessories make use of dog-face leather appliqué. Dog-sized bandanas and berets make it easy for owners to match their pets.
As a whole, the collection finds inspiration in “the dapper dog walker,” which explains the focus on preppy daywear; the largely neutral palette winks at traditional dress codes. Bold cuts and flared silhouettes are defined by straight lines, putting an elegant spin on daily wear.
After its October 24th pre-launch — both online and on the Louis Vuitton app — the collection is now available in stores worldwide.
