This 1,500-HP Electric Hypercar Was Heavily Inspired by Formula One
For a tiny city-state on the edge of the equator, Singapore is responsible for a disproportionate number of pretty great things: Hainanese chicken rice; this open-air home; my parents. And the hits just keep on coming — come the Geneva International Motor Show in March, upstart Singaporean carmaker Vanda Electrics is set to debut the Dendrobium, a rip-roaring doozy of an electric hypercar.
Named for a species of orchid native to the island nation, the Dendrobium is expected to boast 1,500 horsepower and produce 4,000 Nm of torque, en route to a 0-100 km/h time of 2.6 seconds. With a stunning Formula One-inspired carbon-aluminum body (designed in part by famed F1 firm Williams Advanced Engineering), a battery capable of holding a charge up to 100 kWh — enough power to travel the length of Singapore eight times over — and an expected top speed of 400 km/h, this might be the high-performance knockout that finally convinces stubborn autophiles like Jerry Seinfeld that electric vehicles are actually worth their time.
A total of 10 of these monsters are expected to be built. Keep up the good work, Lion City.
