Jack Quaid Is Making His Own Way — And His Own Family — in Hollywood
Jack Quaid is bumming around Toronto’s Trinity Bellwoods park, watching the slackliners and the skateboarders and soaking up the last few drops of summer. These are his stomping grounds while he’s in town, which he often is while filming the second season of his hit Amazon show, The Boys. “Trinity Bellwoods is my favourite park anywhere ever,” he says. “I love this city.”

Maybe, you think, that’s why you recognize him. He’s definitely got the boy-next-door thing going on in spades. But there’s another reason he might look familiar: you probably know his parents, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. He looks like a ’90s cineplex marquee mashed up and come back to life, a healthy dose of both famous gene pools thriving, from Dennis’s broad shoulders and caddish blue eyes to Meg’s blonde hair and impish grin.

Strangely, Quaid came to acting all on his own. “I did a play in middle school, A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” he says. “I played Bottom. And the director had this way of making Shakespeare really accessible, so I just jumped in. I got my first laugh onstage, and I was hooked.”
Since then, he’s been making his own way in Hollywood. First, there was a role in the Hunger Games series. Then the well-received romcom Plus One, which came out last year. And now The Boys, which premiered this summer to wide acclaim. And though he may now be firmly entrenched in the family business, here in Toronto, half a continent away from his home in Los Angeles, he’s building something entirely his own. “What I love about acting is the people, the family you make,” he says. “The Boys is a family.”
