SHARP & Mercedes-AMG
Redtail Golf Club — perhaps Canada’s most exclusive course — is notoriously hard to find. An onyx-black gate and tastefully subtle sign mark the facilities, and it was behind both that SHARP and Mercedes-Benz recently teamed up to host an exclusive, VIP golf experience. Not only do both SHARP and Mercedes-Benz know a thing or two about the VIP treatment, but Mercedes-Benz has supported the game of golf for more than 30 years, partnering with the most exclusive majors and engaging players around the world.
This particular VIP event began before guests even arrived at Redtail, with attendees hitting the road earlier that morning in a selection of premium Mercedes-AMG models — the perfect drive on the road, en route to the perfect drive on the links.
The cars spanned the breadth of Mercedes-AMG’s high-performance lineup; some guests rolled up to Redtail in the inimitable Mercedes-AMG G 63 — a mid-century icon equipped with contemporary technology — while others enjoyed the precision performance of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 4MATIC+ Sedan.
The route to the course — a winding, pastoral adventure through the lush Ontario countryside — was a journey fit for these ultra-luxe models. The elegant wheels of the Mercedes-AMG coupés, SUVs, and sedans hit the highway early to escape the city rush and coasted out into the country, cruising through quaint rural towns before arriving at the course in Elgin County’s Port Stanley. And each hand-built Mercedes-AMG engine came to a comfortable stop outside the striking, sloping rooftop of the Redtail Golf Club.
With its intricate architecture and sprawling lawns, it’s no surprise that the resort has been frequented by some of the world’s top athletes and other global celebrities. To stay and play at Redtail is to follow in the footsteps of names like Sean Connery and even Queen Elizabeth II, who both previously enjoyed stays inside one of the resort’s Arcadian cottages. Yet SHARP and Mercedes-Benz’s guests, arriving comfortably ensconced in their Nappa leather driving seats, had even more treats to look forward to.
A gourmet lunch was waiting upon arrival — although most immediately took to the range, warming up in anticipation of the challenging 18 holes to follow. Sunshine smiled down on the sprawling hills, the grass glowed in the late summer light, and glasses brimmed with special seasonal cocktails on the patio. Safely parked up, newly arrived guests were invited to sip samples of The Glenlivet’s single malts, all the while drinking in the powerful massed display of Mercedes-AMG models.
But the cars were not the only luxurious machines on display. Inside the charming, rustic clubhouse, guests were also treated to a viewing of several IWC Schaffhausen timepieces. Like an appetizer for the eyes, attendees surveyed a broad selection of pieces from the Swiss Maison’s various collections, ranging from solid gold annual calendars to cutting-edge F1 Edition pieces. Appointed with high-tech materials and flashy finishes, such timepieces have long proved IWC a fitting partner for the exceptional Mercedes-AMG F1 team.
After dinner, cigars and some choice single malt nightcaps topped off the evening. Guests then dispersed across the course, back to their cabins, for a good night’s sleep — where VIP gift bags, filled with an array of special mementos, were waiting for them.
The following morning, there was an opportunity to test drive the ample number of Mercedes-AMG models on hand, with some guests even swapping their rides for the return drive home. But, whether attendees slid into the diamond-stitched interior of a Mercedes-AMG G 63 or popped open the signature frameless door of an all-electric Mercedes-AMG EQS 4MATIC+ Sedan, opulence was once again the order of the day. And, after a getaway showcasing the best in top-notch timepieces, drinks, and hospitality, experiencing another of Mercedes-AMG’s high-performance models proved the perfect way to wrap up this master class in luxury living.
