7 Surprises In the All-New INFINITI QX80
INFINITI & SHARP
We’ve all spent enough time in cars, both as drivers and passengers, to have a fairly good understanding of what to expect when we climb inside. The new INFINITI QX80, however, is designed to surpass expectations at every turn with a host of innovative safety, comfort, and infotainment features. From customizable lighting to cameras that show you more, here are seven game-changing innovations that make the brand’s flagship three-row SUV a new kind of luxury vehicle.
Light Path
The surprises begin before you even enter the vehicle thanks to the available INFINITI-first Light Path feature. When you unlock the doors using the key fob, your own personal light show begins with the Infiniti emblem on the grille, which glows gently white while a bar of illumination extends outwards from the centre of the grille as elements of the daytime running lights activate in sequence. The Light Path culminates with a projection of the INFINITI name and a wing-like geometric shape on the ground beside the driver’s door – a dramatic welcome, and a fitting introduction to the experience awaiting inside.
Biometric Cooling
Every aspect of the new QX80 is designed for the utmost personal comfort, from the driver’s seat to the third row. One of the most innovative features among these is the available segment-first Biometric cooling feature, which uses an infrared sensor to adapt the interior climate to a passenger’s individual needs. It works via a sensor that’s integrated into the headliner, which detects if a passenger is hot (say, after an intense workout) and responds by near-instantly adjusting the temperature and airflow accordingly.
Individual Audio
The QX80 is the first vehicle in the full-size luxury SUV segment to be available with Klipsch premium audio systems, but concert hall sound quality isn’t the only enticing feature here. Individual Audio makes use of the metal-trimmed speakers mounted to the front seat headrests, and when enabled, allows the driver to prioritize specific audio elements (think: navigation directions, music, phone calls). This means a driver can make a phone call without interrupting his passengers’ favourite playlist, or listen to his own music without disturbing a sleeping passenger in the back.
Front Wide View
Parking in a tight spot can be a nerve-wracking maneuver, and the QX80 solves this age-old problem with Front Wide View, which offers a wide 170-degree view to the sides of the vehicle. This innovative feature allows the driver to “see” past parked cars and around corners, making navigating tight garages a cinch.
Invisible Hood View
To ensure drivers have a full view of the road in front of them while parking, Invisible Hood View uses advanced image processing to project an image of what’s directly underneath the vehicle onto the SUV’s large 14.3-inch displays. This renders the entire front of the car invisible, making it easy to spot curbs in narrow drive-through lanes, car wash tracks, and any other obstacles on the ground.
My Parking Locations
This technology makes it easier to park perfectly every time you reach your spot at home or the office. Simply store your preferred parking location, and then use Infiniti’s parking guides – which appear as parking lines on the camera views – to maneuver into your pre-programmed parking location.
Electronic Air Suspension
The QX80’s Electronic Air Suspension is one of many ways in which the vehicle elevates the driver and passenger experience in unexpected ways. While driving, it lowers by 3 cm at speed for better aerodynamics, and when parked it can lower by more than 7 cm to make it easier to load and unload cargo. An Off-road setting, meanwhile, significantly raises the QX80’s ride height to help you easily navigate more rugged terrain.
