How We’d Build It: 1-of-1 Range Rover Sport SV Bespoke x SHARP
Ever since the crack team at Range Rover’s SV Bespoke division began offering their sky-is-the-limit personalization service on the Range Rover Sport, the editors here at Sharp have been daydreaming about how we’d build it.
The Sport is effortlessly suave but has an aggressive edge. It can be polite and well-mannered, but it can be a brute when the occasion calls. It’s the sort of character that would be perfectly welcome in a Guy Ritchie gangster flick.
Wait, hang on, we just realized we’re describing Theo James, the Range Rover Sport brand ambassador and perhaps also the next James Bond? The point still stands: the Sport is the brand’s posh brute, and for that we love it. For our build, we’re leaning into both sides of the SUV’s persona.
First, a quick note about how SV Bespoke works. The team at Oxford Road specializes in one-off builds for Range Rover’s most discerning clients. They only do a handful of builds each year and the full process can take up to nine months. (See the Celestial Collection, for recent examples.) A few SV Bespoke items are available à la carte through the online configurator, but for everything else – and to begin a personal consultation with Range Rover’s design team in England – you’ll need to see your local dealer.
A One-of-a-Kind Exterior
We’re looking back for inspiration, to one of the OG Range Rover colours, found on the one-off originally featured as a backdrop in the pages of Vogue magazine. The deep, light metallic blue is as playful as it is elegant. (Haven’t we all had enough of white/silver/black cars? Come on.) It’s the sort of colour that’d make you smile every time the sun hits it, and the bright hue pairs nicely with the optional Black Exterior package. Instead of going for a contrasting roof colour, we’d match the roof to the light metallic blue body to emphasize the fastback roofline.
As for the wheels, the SV Bespoke 22-inch forged hoops (Style 5131) are gorgeous. We’d ask SV Bespoke to mock up a set in brushed metal to see if they look as good as the satin black items available à la carte. If the silver looks good on those rims, we’d tap SV Bespoke to do matching brushed silver trim on all the exterior brightwork.
As for the brake calipers, the stock black colour does the job, but if SV Bespoke can match the calipers to the light metallic bodywork that would be chef’s kiss.
A Welcoming Interior
Inside is where we’d get the team at SV Bespoke to really work its magic.
Instead of leather, we’d opt for woven textiles where possible. SV Bespoke has extensive experience using woven textile in other one-off Range Rover builds and we’d lean on them for their expertise. (For example, the two-tone grey textiles on the Burford Edition launched last year in the U.K. are to die for.)
As for colour, we’re thinking a warm, earthy, subdued, caramel palette – almost as you’d see on a fine wool suit – would pair nicely with the light blue exterior. The two-tone interior colourway and wood trim of the India-exclusive Ranthambore Edition by SV Bespoke is in the ballpark of what we’re imagining. But, again, we’d be open to other ideas from the designers at SV Bespoke. Perhaps a more subtle linen-coloured textile would work better?
Option boxes we’re ticking: the 29-speaker Meridian Signature Sound System (it’s a must-have on any build); cargo partition; electric socket; Wi-Fi connectivity; full-size spare wheel; exterior badge delete; and laminated front and side glass.
The dashboard, upper and lower centre console, upper and lower door panels need to be covered in woven textile, stitched leather or wood. Naturally, the headliner needs to be in a light colour, matching the seats, to give the cabin an airy feel. On the dashboard we’re speccing as much wood veneer as humanly possible. We’ll also take advantage of the wood/leather steering wheel available on the full-size Range Rover and ask if SV Bespoke could do something similar on the Sport.
For the interior, the vibe we’re going for is: English country estate with a modern twist.
Obviously, we could spend weeks building our dream-car in collaboration with the masters of good taste at SV Bespoke. If you thought wearing a bespoke suit felt good, driving a bespoke car is similar but approximately one thousand times better. If you ever have a chance to work with SV Bespoke, don’t miss it.
