Twilight in Tokyo: Range Rover House Brings Bespoke Luxury to Karuizawa
Against a backdrop of clean-lined architecture and cool mountain air, Range Rover welcomed guests into a one-of-a-kind retreat celebrating culture, craftsmanship and calm.
For three days in late July, Range Rover transported its most loyal Japanese clients into a space of stillness and sophistication with the return of Range Rover House, this time set in the serene mountain town of Karuizawa, just outside Tokyo. From July 25 to 27, the brand’s global vision of modern luxury was reimagined through a Japanese lens — bringing together the natural beauty of the region with deeply rooted traditions and a bold, design-forward debut.
At the heart of the experience was the reveal of the Range Rover SV Bespoke Urban Twilight Collection, a Japan-exclusive commission limited to just twelve vehicles. Designed in collaboration with the SV team in the UK, the collection drew inspiration from the shifting tones of the urban sky — those fleeting moments when light, atmosphere and architecture briefly align. With only four examples of each edition, it was a showcase not only of restraint, but of the Range Rover brand’s growing fluency in regional storytelling.
The three vehicles were presented as reflections of different phases of the Tokyo sky: Urban Dawn, finished in a deep mauve satin and paired with ebony leather and tonal embroidery, evoked the quiet minutes just before sunrise.
Urban Dusk, wrapped in smoky blue-grey satin, revealed warm golden undertones in the fading light. Its interior, made entirely of Ultrafabric, offered a tactile alternative to traditional leather, with a soft two-tone palette of light cloud and grey.
And Urban Light, perhaps the most poetic of the trio, was defined by its silky rose finish — subtly tinted with warmth and matched with pearly leather, chrome highlights and white ceramic accents. Each vehicle felt both precise and impressionistic, like the moment of sky it captured.
Just as important as the reveal itself was the atmosphere in which it was staged. Range Rover House Karuizawa was carefully designed to immerse guests in a lifestyle that mirrors the brand’s philosophy of quiet sophistication. Set within a contemporary villa surrounded by forest and filtered light, the experience unfolded like a curated meditation on space and intention.
Guests were invited to take part in a modern tea ceremony led by the Sakurai Tea Research Institute, where centuries-old practice was reframed through a minimalist lens. Nearby, a bonsai installation by TRADMAN’S BONSAI served as a living sculpture — blending tradition and innovation in perfect balance. The culinary experience, curated by rising-star chef Takuya Okada of vase, offered a similarly layered narrative, with each course shaped to reflect both local ingredients and the brand’s modernist values.
What emerged across these three days was more than a product launch — it was a quiet conversation between cultures, where Range Rover’s design ethos found common ground with Japanese artistry, precision and pause. As Melissa Janda, Brand Manager for Range Rover Overseas, noted, “We are delighted to bring Range Rover House to our Japanese customers. This collection, created in collaboration with the UK SV design team, tells a unique story crafted specifically for Japan. Range Rover remains committed to delivering exceptional experiences to our valued Japanese clientele.”
From the tailored exclusivity of the Urban Twilight Collection to the intentional curation of every room, sound and taste, Range Rover House Karuizawa proved that the most powerful statements don’t need to be loud. They just need to be made with care.
