Mollee Gray Is All Grown Up
It’s not always easy making the journey from tween star to full-fledged actor, but Mollee Gray is off to a great start.
Originally, the 25-year-old set out to become a dancer — Gray has showed off her steps on The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, Glee, Ellen and even competed on So You Think You Can Dance, finishing in the top 8. But she caught the acting bug in 2006, after accepting a role in the smash hit High School Musical. Gray went on to appear in two HSM sequels, before starring in the Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie. Now, though, after years of playing saccharine adolescents — her Teen Beach character’s name was Giggles, for chrissakes —  she’s challenging herself with more complex, adult roles.
Her latest film, South 32, is “an intense thriller that focuses on the repercussions of bullying,” Gray says. “I’m a huge advocate for anti-bullying campaigns, so this project is special to me. My character, Courtney, grew up a victim of bullying, and it became too much for her to handle.” But don’t worry, the beautiful Utah native won’t be your typical wallflower. “There’s a point in the film where Courtney really takes matters into her own hands.” We can’t wait.
Would you rather only ever eat your favourite dish every day for the rest of your life or listen to your favourite song ever day for the rest of your life?Â
I wouldn’t mind listening to my favourite song every day, because I’m a dancer — I feel like I can put that to use and bring out my artistry.
Would you rather live one life that lasts 1,000 years or ten lives that last 100 years each?
Ooooh! That’s tough. I feel like I would rather live one life that last 1,000 years, because I don’t think I could fathom having a different family every 100 years!
Would you rather be a character in the movie Bridesmaids or Mean Girls?
Ugh, these are hard! [Laughs.] Definitely Mean Girls. That was a childhood favourite of mine.
Would you rather have to always to wear sweats or uncomfortable couture?
I could live in sweats.
If you could dance with anyone alive or dead, who would you want to dance with?
Frank Sinatra, easily. He is still one of the major dance icons.
Would you rather be able to reverse one decision a day or stop time for 10 seconds a day?
Stop time for ten seconds! I’m a firm believer in never regretting the decisions I make, and to trust my path.
