TAG Heuer’s Newest Smartwatch Is the Only Golf Gadget You’ll Need This Summer
There are two ways to win at golf. The first, which some might call the more traditional way, is to get your ball in the hole in fewer strokes than the other guy. The other way is to have better gear and a better score. We’re all for life’s simple pleasures, but when it comes to golf, the kit is half the fun (sometimes more, depending on how we’re playing). In addition to this year’s crop of high-tech drivers, putters and spikeless shoes, the most advanced piece of new gear is undoubtedly TAG Heuer’s new Connected smartwatch, a fitness tracker designed to be your best friend on the links and beyond.
The third edition of the Connected watch, and the second edition purpose-designed for golfers, the Connected Golf Edition combines TAG Heuer’s mastery of Swiss watchmaking with the latest advances in wearable tech. Used in combination with the free TAG Heuer Golf app, this new Android-powered smartwatch promises to bring a whole new level of seamless analytics to your game.
Designed and developed entirely in-house by TAG Heuer, the watch features an ultra-lightweight 45-mm black titanium case, a crown flanked by two functional pushers and a screwed case back, making it look and feel much like a high-end Swiss sports watch. A matte black ceramic bezel, meanwhile, features 18 engraved and lacquered graduations which serve as reference for performance at each hole.
Just as with a mechanical timepiece, however, this smartwatch ought to be judged as much on what it does as what it looks like, and it distinguishes itself just as well here. When linked to the TAG Heuer Sport app, the new Connected Golf Edition provides 3D mapping for some 40,000 golf courses around the world (which is 99% of them, the company estimates), hazards distance, shot tracking, scorecards for up to four players, and pro stats. Equally impressive is the new Driving Zone feature, which collects data on your tee shots and uses it to predict the best zone to target based on past rounds.
“Every detail has been purposefully engineered to help refine the player’s strategy, improve their accuracy and remove the guesswork so they can focus on enjoying the game, without compromising on elegance and style.” says Frédéric Arnault, TAG Heuer’s Chief Strategy and Digital Officer, who led the effort to develop and design the new Connected Golf Edition.
This attention to detail extends to the five custom-designed always-on watch faces (each accented with emerald green to complement the case and strap) which are viewable in any lighting thanks to an ultra-legible flush OLED touchscreen protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. A robust 430 mAh battery provides all-day performance or up to six hours of constant Sports app use, recharging fully in just 90 minutes. For the days when you’re not golfing, the new Connected can run for a full hour using GPS, audio streaming and heart-rate monitoring, while tracking your running, cycling or cross-training sessions. With 5 ATM of water-resistance, it can also handle a dip in the pool after your game.
The TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition launches this week, and comes with a magnetic battery charger, travel pouch and and accessory box containing four TAG Heuer-branded tees, a branded divot tool, three branded balls and an extra black rubber strap. Because, as we all know, winning is good, but winning AND having the best gear is what it’s all about.
