Here’s a 10-Minute Supercut of Every Best Visual Effects Oscar Winner

Here’s the perfect distraction to get you through those last few straggling minutes of Monday: a compilation of every movie that’s won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects from 1927 through to the present.

A bunch of recent favourites are accounted for, of course — from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars to Terminator 2 and The Matrix — but perhaps the coolest thing about this video is seeing just how well so many of the early winners from the ’40s and ’50s have held up. Take a look at the aerial boming from The Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954), for instance, and tell me it couldn’t be a popcorn flick from last summer. It’s further proof that, at its best, the magic of movies truly is timeless.
