Antje Utgaard Is Good for a Laugh
We all dream of making a beautiful woman laugh. But when you hear Antje Utgaard’s laugh, that dream becomes feverish. It becomes your mission. You need to hear her laugh, because she has one of the all-time great laughs: it starts off low, guttural, and yet somehow evolves into a high-pitched joyous cackle. It’s only a little disappointing that Utgaard, a 22-year-old model from Wisconsin, is almost always laughing, for almost anybody.
“Don’t get me wrong, I take my job seriously,” she says. “What you guys see is the polished, sexy photo, but those are taken in between giggle fits.”
You should take her a little seriously, though. Utgaard has been called “the next Kate Upton,” and you’re bound to see her in major campaigns this year. Meanwhile, a quick scroll through her Facebook page brings up almost as many quirky sketch videos as there are sexy photoshoots.
“If you’re not having a good time, there’s no point to it, right?” she says.
No joke.
What is your favourite social media platform?
Instagram. No competition.
Who is your favourite model of the moment?
Gigi Hadid. She’s gorgeous. Favourite model of all time might actually be Kate Upton. I’ve always been a fan. That’s why I hope she doesn’t hate me for being dubbed the “next her.” [Laughs.]
What has been your favourite photoshoot experience?
That’s a hard one. I’ve had so many good ones. The experience really depends on the photographer. If I have a good photographer, then the crew is usually in a better mood. Which, obviously, puts me in one too. I also love location shoots.
What are you watching right now?
I don’t watch a lot of television right now. But, I go to the movies almost once or twice a week! I have a theatre really close to my house and will run over whenever I’m bored. Last night, I went and watched Boss Baby. It was actually so good!
What is the best trip you’ve ever taken?
I don’t even know! I’ve had a lot of amazing trips and a lot of fun, I don’t know if I can even choose. I’ve had pretty bad ones, too. I just got back from a vacation in Cancun and on the first day all of our phones were stolen. Which means we couldn’t take pictures the whole week so it’s like we were never even there! [Laughs.]
What is your worst habit?
It’s bad to clean your ears too much, right? I clean my ears like twice a day. That’s a weird habit, but I have clean ears! Also, when I eat bad food, I’ll go all in and eat bad for the entire day. If it’s a cheat day, it’s a 24-hour cheat day.
What’s your favourite cheat meal?
Ice cream. I can eat ice cream all day. If you gave me a gallon, it’s gone. I’m obsessed with ice cream to the point that I actually crave it. Who craves ice cream?!
How do you prep for a photo shoot?
I make sure I have a spray tan! I exfoliate, get my nails done, eyebrows, the whole thing. I drink a lot of water and will hit the gym once or twice. It’s a real process.
