Equal parts fashion designer and style-focused content creator, Andre Chin is dedicated to empowering others to embrace their creativity, specifically through clothing design. His business Glory Allan focuses on supplying those curious about fashion design with the tools and resources needed to explore the space first-hand, and his Instagram and YouTube channels are filled with thoughtfully-presented videos teaching viewers about the ins and outs of sitting down at a sewing machine for the first (or third) time.
SHARP sat down with Chin to get his take on winter fashion, trends, preferences, and how the SOREL Caribou™ boot fits into the current fashion landscape.
What influences your winter style?
I grew up spending a lot of time outdoors — hiking, snowboarding, camping—so I’ve always appreciated warm, functional clothing, accessories, and footwear. I get cold easily, so I’m all about layers and cozy fabrics like fleece and down. Puffy coats, warm and dry boots, and being bundled up from head to toe are essential for me. Once I’ve got the basics down, that’s when I can have fun with styling—mainly through accessories.
What winter styling trends are you most excited about this year?
Oversized accessories are having a moment, and I’m here for it — big, fluffy scarves and knit hats, especially. I’m also loving where boots are headed, with bolder colours, and the return of bold yet classic designs for everyday wear. I can’t wait to see how designers continue to reinvent outerwear, too.
How does footwear, specifically boots, play a role in your styling?
Boots are often my starting point. I usually go for wide-leg or baggier pants because I know they’ll pair well with boots. From there, I layer up. I’ll often go for cropped or shorter pieces on top to balance out the proportions. Boots really anchor my look, so I build around them.
