The Han Solo Standalone Movie Has Begun Filming
Filming for the Han Solo spin-off began today, director Chis Miller revealed on Twitter. He tweeted out the film slate for the opening shot with the clever note “Han First Shot.”
The slate reveals little about the movie, beyond the crew’s cute working title for the project — Star Wars: Red Cup. Because red Solo cups, ya dig?

The news comes just days after the title for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII was revealed.

Miller and his directing partner Phil Lord were responsible for the Lego Movie and 22 Jump Street. The film stars young Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and Woody Harrelson as Han’s mentor. Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke has been cast in a yet-unnamed role.

Disney has been tightlipped about the plot for the new movie, but bits of information have made it out into the public. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, described the movie as a “heist” and a “western,” which, yeah, sounds entirely awesome. According to Comic Book, the film is also shooting in Italy and off the coast of Africa. There’s no word, though, about where Miller tweeted out his photo today.
The Han Solo movie is set for release on May 25, 2018. I got a good feeling about this, guys.
