High-Tech Beauty

Beauty services were due for a facelift.

In traditional settings, services such as facials might take place in a comically faux-tranquil spa, while you spend an hour getting lathered and moisturized with products that can only go so far in the way of personalization to your unique skincare needs. Injectables might leave you wide-eyed at the lack of balance to your after-photos, sometimes taking days to heal from the associated bruising and swelling.

“Vancouver is Canada’s wellness capital and, without a doubt, one of the most progressive health and wellness cities on the planet.”

Jessica Walsh, CEO of Formula Fig

But Formula Fig, a facility dedicated to high-tech facials and injectables, is aiming to give beauty services an overdue glow up. Mixing science and beauty, Formula Fig’s team consists of medical professionals and aestheticians who’ve developed science-forward treatments that are curated to unique needs – while getting you out the door and on with your day in 30 minutes.

“At Formula Fig, we have been pioneers of tech-enabled, immersive experiences — from our high-tech treatments to the back-end medical tech and digital platforms we use to enhance our guests’ journey,” says Jessica Walsh, Formula Fig’s CEO and co-founder. According to Walsh, this high-tech approach provides a higher standard of care, improved treatment results and a more enjoyable experience for Formula Fig’s guests.

Currently operating in two US locations and five Canadian locations, Walsh knew Vancouver was be the right choice for Formula Fig — the facility is set up in three west coast spots so far.

“Vancouver is Canada’s wellness capital and, without a doubt, one of the most progressive health and wellness cities on the planet,” she says. “It has a unique combination of health-conscious people, a supportive business environment, and a strong community of innovative minds.”

Armed with the latest in beauty tech, Formula Fig’s mission is to enhance natural assets. That means that its injectables are designed to balance features, soften shadows and restore subtle volume, while preventing wrinkles and promoting radiance. Their facials use innovative machines and modalities to target specific concerns — all with no downtime.

And while a traditional spa might offer skincare upgrades such as promoting radiance or hydration, that’s just the beginning at Formula Fig, which covers everything from lifting, sculpting, collagen-production stimulation, lymphatic drainage and even light therapy. Formula Fig keeps its community close by offering a variety of memberships that all include perks such as personal skincare guidance, complimentary add-ons to facials, and exclusive access to monthly benefits.

With such a hard lean into tech, it’s no surprise that Formula Fig’s future plans include leveraging data even further to stay ahead of beauty trends.

“Recently, we have been leaning more into hyper-personalization through AI and Big Data by offering tailored recommendations to guests’ needs,” explains Walsh. “We’re also excited about ways in which we can continue to offer innovative and immersive experiences, and we’ve been exploring how virtual reality and augmented reality can amplify our in-person experience.”

For now, Formula Fig knows its position in the Vancouver market — it’s evident in the city’s reception, membership engagement and sales performance that the area’s lifestyle aligns with the brand’s mission. “Everyone knows that Vancouver is one of the highest-ranking ‘quality of life’ cities – we like to think that Formula Fig is one of the reasons why,” says Walsh.
