5 Menswear Moments From the 76th Primetime Emmys

We’ll forgive you if Sunday’s ceremony seemed a little familiar. Given last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike, the 2023 Emmys aired in January — just 8 months earlier — which makes the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards the second ceremony of 2024.

That said, there were plenty of shake-ups: father-son duo Eugene & Dan Levy hosted the night, a marked departure from the typical, late-night talkshow types. Elsewhere, Baby Reindeer won big as a limited-series; Jessica Gunning offered some delightful turns of phrase as she accepted ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress’ (“blinking heckers!”), while a kilt-clad Richard Gadd earned three awards for writing, acting, and producing the show. HBO’s Hacks took home ‘Outstanding Comedy Series,’ beating the The Bear in its controversially-chosen category (though Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach each took home a win).

Perhaps the biggest headline, though, was FX’s Shōgun. Originally conceived as a mini-series, the show became a runaway hit, earning a total of 25 nominations. As the entire Shōgun cast crowded around the podium to accept an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Drama Series’ — Shōgun was the first to win with a non-English language series — producer Justin Marks expressed his surprise. “You guys green-lit a very expensive, subtitled Japanese period piece, whose central climax revolves around a poetry competition,” said the producer, “I have no idea why you did that, but thank you for your faith in this incredible team.”

If the night offers any takeaway, it’s that television is ready to take a risk. Yet the small screen isn’t alone in this — the red carpet looks had no shortage of bold moments. Reservation Dogs star D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai was a highlight; the actor explained how his look — a black suit with a red handprint across his mouth — represents the missing and murdered Indigenous women across North America. Across the board, Emmys style had plenty of substance. Scroll down to see more fashionable ‘fits from the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Jonathan Bailey never misses his cue. At the Emmys, the actor showed up in a billowing Armani ensemble, his wide, peaked lapels adorned with a glittering brooch. A sleek and shiny black cummerbund tied into straight-cut trousers, while an OMEGA De Ville Prestige in a 40mm diameter solidified the style.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach

“I’m so grateful for this show and to work with these beautiful people,” said Ebon Moss-Bachrach, accepting an award for his work on The Bear. Showing up sans-tie, the actor opted for a high collared shirt and slick, notched lapels, accentuating the old-Hollywood glam of his Bottega Veneta suit.

Wearing a bespoke look by Brioni, Matt Bomer gave the audience a masterclass in colour. On top, a plum-coloured combination featured expert tailoring alongside a casually-unbuttoned shirt. Accents included patent leather shoes and a mid-sized 34mm steel-on-steel OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades.

Aaron Moten

Fallout‘s Aaron Moten brought a splash of colour to the typically black-white-and-gold affair, turning heads in a military-inspired suit from Kenzo’s Fall 2024 collection. Alongside gold buttons and a dangling chain, Moten sported an OMEGA De Ville Tresor in yellow gold.

Eugene Levy

Dan Levy’s look by Loewe got plenty of attention — deservedly so — but his father (and co-host), Eugene Levy, merits equal praise. Sporting his signature bushy eyebrows and round black rims, the Canadian actor wore a pair of shiny leather loafers and a classic double-breasted jacket, closed over a shimmering shirt and tie.
