The 1-of-10 Range Rover Sport SV Gaea Debuts at Range Rover House Whistler
Range Rover House Whistler, situated on the snowy slopes of the Coast Mountains that rise like a wall between Canada and the Pacific Ocean, made for the perfect setting in which to debut Gaea, a limited-edition Range Rover Sport SV crafted by the brand’s SV Bespoke division. Only 10 examples will be offered to Canadian customers, and guests of Range Rover House Whistler are the first in Canada to be given the opportunity to place an order.
Gaea is one of five exclusively crafted Range Rover Sport SV curations that make up the Celestial Collection, a first of its kind from the firm’s in-house design team at SV Bespoke. The five models are Gaea, Theia, Io, Vega, and Sol. Not all of them will be available in Canada, however. Only 10 examples of the Gaea and 10 examples of the Vega will make it into this country, ensuring that these hand-crafted machines will remain an exceeding rare sight on the roads.
“The cosmos is a transcendent theme that crosses boundaries, fascinating and uniting people globally,” explained Phoebe Lindsay, the materiality manager for Range Rover. “It’s a theme that feels appropriate for the first collection for the Range Rover Sport SV — embodying modern luxury design, while pushing the boundaries of the British originality Range Rover is famed for.”
“The idea of mystery and intrigue from the celestial sky was key,” she continued, “the symbolism you can find throughout the collection draws a deeper meaning. These stories have been carefully considered to reflect the exemplary tastes of our clients.”
The Gaea Curation
In Greek mythology, Gaea represents Earth, the place where life started. Evidence of early life is all around at Range Rover House Whistler. Here, the Earth’s long history is on full display.
Whistler is made primarily of shale that formed 100-million years ago on an ancient seafloor, as well as lava from long-forgotten volcanic eruptions. To form Whistler Mountain, all of this geological material was lifted up by crushing pressure as the tectonic plates of North American and the Pacific Ocean collided.
The Gaea curation from SV Bespoke hasn’t been quite so long in the making as this mountain, but it too shows that beauty can’t be rushed. Everything about it has been carefully considered by the design team, and then expertly crafted and assembled by artisans in England.
The TerreMatte green exterior paint looks both earthy and oceanic. So too does the Gaea symbol seen throughout the car; the slanted graphic could be interpreted as both a wave and a mountain. On the exterior, the green bodywork is set against a Narvik Black roof and mirrors. Visible behind a set of darkened alloy wheels are Carbon Bronze ceramic brake calipers. At the rear, a set of Satin Forged carbon-fibre tailpipes completes the picture. They’ll echo to the tune of the SV’s twin-turbo V8 as it churns out 626 horsepower.
As for the cabin, Caraway Windsor leather with Kvadrat steelcut backboards, natural brown Silver Birch wooden finishers and a tonal stitch complete the earthy palette.
Guests of Range Rover House Whistler who place an order for the Gaea will also receive an exclusive Range Rover House Package. It includes a matching pair of Canadian-made Prior custom skis and snowboard that are bespoke to the owner’s size and riding style. Clients will also receive a custom pair of colour-matched speakers from Meridian, the storied British firm that supplies Range Rover’s audiophile-grade stereos.
If that seems like a lot, well, it is. But Range Rover knows it must go above and beyond, offering clients not just expensive, shiny new things but objects with meaning.
“Today’s discerning luxury clients are looking for more than just aesthetics,” explained Geraldine Ingham, managing director of the Range Rover brand. “We want to create vehicles with which they form personal connections and bonds,” she added.
