The 2019 Audi A7 Sportback Is Icy, Muscular, and Aggressively German
Audi just unveiled the 2019 A7 Sportback and we must say, we’re really happy they didn’t stray away from the four-door coupe format. Originally released back in 2012, it was one of the original sedan/coupe hybrids, a little bit behind the Mercedes CLS, but with way better design. The exterior design of the new A7 is an expression of Audi’s new design language that they introduced with the new flagship A8. Large surfaces, sharp edges, and a muscular build — we’re totally on board here. It looks clean, minimal, and very, very German.
The A7’s standard engine is a 3.0-liter V6, which gets you 340 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. With it is a seven-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The A7 can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. If we’re being totally honest, that doesn’t sound all that exciting. But of course, with many new releases, more exciting engines come down the line. We can assume that Audi will eventually release some more performance-oriented options with the S7 and RS7.
Like the new A8, the Audi A7 will come with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. What exactly does that mean, you ask? Excess energy from braking is captured in a lithium-ion battery. That means the engine can uncouple from the transmission at highway speeds; basically you can coast with the engine off until acceleration is required. It’s Audi’s way of introducing more efficiency to their cars.
As always with Audi, the interior of the new A7 is totally sublime. The automaker says they’ve fused technology and design to make a futuristic lounge atmosphere. The four key values of the A7’s interior concept are: progressiveness, sportiness, intuitiveness, and sophistication. Let’s just appreciate this interior for a minute. It’s pretty damn perfect.
Also, just look at this thing its taillights do!
Audi says the 2019 A7 Sportback will launch in the German market in late February 2018. A North American launch will likely follow after. We’ve never been so excited for the winter.
