The New Limited-Edition Porsche Boxster 25 Years Drives Home the Iconic Car’s Legacy

Porsche’s roadster family is 25 years old. And to celebrate, the German automaker has launched the Boxster 25 Years, a limited-edition, anniversary model of the iconic car. Not only did the original Boxster concept car (which sported copper-like features) win rave reviews back in 1993 for evoking the brand’s racing heritage, but it also marked a notable change in direction for the automaker. The development of a new water-cooled production flat-six engine and a carry-over parts concept would ultimately return Porsche to profitable production in the ensuing years. The rest is history.

Based on the GTS 4.0, it comes kitted with a 394 horsepower naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine and a Bordeaux leather interior. But it’s the car’s front apron, side-air intakes, and 20-inch alloy wheels, all clad in a reinterpreted Neodyme colour (think copper), that make a statement by nodding to to where the Boxster began: the 1993 Detroit Auto Show.

Today, the Boxster is in its fourth generation and the new Boxster 25 Years celebrates its origins. If you’re keen to get your hands on a piece of Porsche history, you better get moving – only 1,250 units are availably globally.
